The E1 Festival was a community run event that took place throughout the 1970s on vacant land in Stepney, East London. Title number: 21164
LSA ID: LSA/27860
Description: The first shot shows a marching drum band playing at the foot of a Swimming Pool, with the camera panning to show the attendees, from swimmers to spectators, mostly white children and teenagers. An aerial long shot shows the band march around the pool for a performance, as the camera zooms in and out. Young adults and children follow behind in swimming gear. The camera records the races – from individual races to relays. Other children cheer from around the pool, jumping gleefully as the camera zooms back in on the finish line.
The second part of the video shows adults announcing the winners. Young adults hand out prizes to the younger children, a textile or T-shirt of sorts. The camera cuts out during this segment.
